We've had an infestation of "hobo spiders". Evidently, they are just as poisonous as the brown recluse and are becoming quite a problem in the Pacific Northwest all the way to where we live in Utah. There is a very informative web site that gives an adequate description of what they look like and what their habits are. It is hobospider.com. These suckers are pretty big and resemble wolf spiders, which like the other person reported, are non poisonous. Unfortunately, what I've heard about dealing with hobo spiders is that when you try to kill them, you will sometimes ultimately be killing their natural enemy, too. So, it's kind of a double edged sword. I think it would definitely be worth it to first try to identify what kind of spidey your dealing with. Otherwise, we've had some success with employing Terminix to keep our spider population down. Good luck!

What color is it. There are wolf spiders which get pretty big but are not poisness. Keep this in mind the brown recluse is a tiny brown spider. The black wibow is black with an hour glass on it belly. Ok that being said, those are two most dangerous spiders around here. So if it doesn't match those descriptions it is not leathal. Put it in th back yard somewhere it will help control other bugs.

No thanks, I hate spiders. I don't know what all is up your way, but the big spiders like tarantulas are not that bad here in the U.S., now over seas, would be a different thing. But, if it were me, I would not mess around and just kill the thing. Then try to find a picture of what it looked like or ask around, then determine if it was poisonous or not. I would not want an unknown spider that big on the loose, unless you want to put it in a bottle and take it somewhere, maybe a pet store, and help you determine what it is. Good luck. How do you know it is not a tarantula? You could get a little box for him at the pet store and just have him as a pet, if you like spiders and he is not poison. Me, I would let him go to Heaven.
