Help, I feel so bad, just sick to my stomach?

I have a cocker spaniel and was trying to trim her hair with a pair of shears. I accidentally snipped a small piece of her ear. The cut is not too bad. What I should I do? Should I take her to the vet or can I put something like tea tree oil on it. She ran under the bed to hide from me because she's scared. I feel so bad. Do you think she'll forgive me?

I think it was corn starch that my vet suggested- it's non-toxic, and will help stop the bleeding. He said I should use it if I ever trim her nails too short... but an ear- you can apply pressure easier than on a nail.

Once the bleading is stopped- Neosporin or other first-aid ointment.

If you're still worried, call the vet. I'm sure you're not the first nor will you be the last to do this.

Pamper you puppy, let her know you're sorry, lots of treats and petting, and she should be fine. She'll still probably be a little nervous around the clippers for a while, though. She won't like the sound or sight of them. Either hide her eyes, or use a different kind of clippers... or just take her to a groomer.

I have done that before on accident with my dog too. I just put some neosporin to prevent infection. Tea tree oil should work too. And yes your dog will forgive you. They are nice like that.

ya i groom my mini schuzie. give her treats spoil her and she will warm up to you. i did that same thing and i felt sooooooooooo bad.

I think she will be ok, You might want to try neosporin on it, it helps cuts heal faster on people and animals. Give her a treat, and she will come back around. I dont think she will hold it against you! LOL

Accidents happen, but right now what you need to do is take care of your dog. Get her out and clean the wound, put some triple antibiotic on it and a bandage if she needs it. IF she's still bleeding, take her to the vet.

Forgive yourself, make it up to your dog the best you can and don't groom her yourself anymore. Let someone else do it who has a lot of experience.

She''ll forget about it soon, its just like accidentally clipping a nail too short. Maybe you should get a groomer next time. You don't want to accidentally cut off her whole ear do you?

ofcourse she will forgive you...i would take her to the vet right away so it dosnt get infected..and they will probly bandage it up...just appoligize to her and tell her it will be ok...you may think thats crazy, but dogs are not a dumb as we think, its just we cant get intouch with them...hope she gets better!!

This is why you should let a proffesional groomer do these things. But yes you should take her to the vet just to make sure everything is going to be alright. It could get infected if anything and you won't notice. A vet will, however. Tea Tree Oil will not help for even a small cutt on a dog, and it will ruin the fur around the wound (so you will always see that different area and be reminded of what you did :( Take her to a vet is my recommendation, and i volunteer for a vet.

Take her to the vet, she may need some medication! She'll forgive you but I might leave the grooming to the pro's from now on! Do have her checked out just to be on the safe side! Hang in there!

She will forgive you but for now you have to stop the bleeding. If you have baking flour pack a small amount around the cut to clot it. This will stop the bleeding so you can see how bad it is . If it's just a small cut then keep an eye on it but if it's longer than 1 cm take her to the vet to see if stitches are required. Next time you trim her please don't use sheers use a comb and clippers with a 10 blade so you don't cut her.

Cocker Spaniels have some pretty big flaps of ear you can cut if you don't know how to groom them and even if you are a groomer and haven't been for long, you have to be very very careful. Depending on how much you cut off and where, there is a possibility you would need to take her to the Vet because she could be bleeding a lot. Vets have something to stop the bleeding immediately and to seal the cut- or where the missing flap is. They will not be doing micro surgery to re-attach a flap that has been sheared off. If you are saying you cut her ear a tiny bit, didn't cut a flap off or anything, that tiny bit may be enough to warrant a few stitches.

I am sure your dog will forgive you, but she may be very afraid of clippers for a long time. So take her to a groomer's next time and explain that she had her ear cut once so she may be scared. Don't take her until the Vet says her wound is healed enough. Please don't try to home doctor this because she could get an infection and things could get a whole lot worse. Especially since Cocker Spaniels ears hang down like they do.
